Kennewick OKs new 14-home subdivision

By John Trumbo, Herald staff writer

A 4.7-acre home for some horses is destined to become a 14-home pocket neighborhood between First and Fourth Avenues in Kennewick near Kellogg Street.

The city council approved a preliminary plat Tuesday that would allow Ericka Keith of Harvester's Unlimited of Richland to develop the land.

The project, which is called Madasyn Meadow Estates, would be served by a new cul-de-sac to be built just west of Kellogg. The project would average 3.5 homes per acre.

There was no opposition at the public hearing before the council voted 6-0 in favor of the subdivision. Councilman Bob Olson was absent.

Also Tuesday, the council agreed to interview Dean Strawn and John Givens March 17 before deciding to reappoint them to four-year positions on the Kennewick Public Facilities District board.

Strawn, who has served eight years, has been president of the board. Givens has served four years.

The council could decide to reappoint them March 17 after completing the interviews. Each interview is being set for 30 to 40 minutes.

Earlier Tuesday evening, two recently formed council committees, a budget and an infrastructure committee, met at 6 p.m. The committee meetings are not officially open public meetings, but the public and news media are welcome to attend, said City Manager Bob Hammond.
