Boys hoops: Burbank on to state

FINLEY -- The third time was the charm for the Columbia (Burbank) boys, who defeated Wahluke 40-36 on Saturday night at the SCAC district tournament in Finley to capture a berth in next week's 1A state tourney in Yakima.

The Coyotes return to state after a one-year absence, making their fourth trip in five years.

The teams split their meetings during the regular season, and it looked like the Warriors (13-10) were on their way after grabbing a 31-27 lead after three quarters.

But Jordan Rada scored all seven of his points in the fourth for the Coyotes (12-11), and Nick Byrd scored six of his game-high 20 in the period to help Burbank rally.

Aaron Hawkins scored 12 points and SCAC East MVP Lance Whitney, playing with a knee injury that caused him to miss four of the last five games, added seven, but Connell (18-5) couldn't overcome a 30-11 halftime deficit and fell one win short of a second straight 1A state trip.

SPOKANE -- Anthony Brown scored 16 points and Shadle Park led 19-6 after one quarter en route to a 3A Eastern Regional semifinal victory.

Alfredo De La Barrera led Sunnyside with 16 points. The Grizzlies play West Valley in a loser-out game Friday at Hanford High.

MOXEE -- Eric Rodriguez led three Grandview players in double figures with 14 points, but the Greyhounds couldn't overcome a 21-12 halftime deficit and fell to Quincy in a CWAC district semifinal.

Grandview plays host to Selah in a loser-out game Thursday.
