I like to refer to all those little changes in my kids as they grow up as "blips."
They arent significant enough to be milestones, but as they happen, they hit me in a way like, that says Something has changed, and it isnt going back."
We had one this past week regarding my son and his pajamas.
I have a thing for cute pajamas. Carters had my number for the last 4.5 years.
Thankfully, my daughter still allows me to exercise my need to buy fuzzy cute pajamas with her since my son is fully rejecting them.
No, I dont want fire truck pajamas, or monkey pajamas. I want Star Wars: The Clone Wars pajamas! he cried. (Or you could insert Batman or Scooby Doo or Transformers in for Star Wars.)
Its not significant. Except that it means my little baby boy not only is asserting his opinion, but he is also rejecting cute. Just a blip.
My daughter will never do this. I am positive.

Not cute or funny
Not cute or funny
I know that the pictures in the Pet Zone section of the Sunday paper are supposed to be cute and funny, but as a Vietnam veteran, I don't see anything cute or funny about on picture in the Nov. 20 edition.
First of all, the American flag is lying on the floor, then the dog is sitting on the flag. There is nothing cute or funny about that picture. If the dog's owners are trying to make a political statement with the flag and their dog's name, George W., it is lost on me. I find the picture insulting and ridiculous! The dog's owners should learn flag etiquette, and shame on the Tri-City Herald for printing it.
Greatly offended
Greatly offended
Why would you publish in Sunday's edition such an offensive pet photo showing an American flag on the floor with a dog sitting on it? It's bad enough that the dog's owners are so unpatriotic as to put the flag there in the first place, but the Herald compounded their stupid action by showing a dog sitting on it.
As a combat veteran of World War II, I am greatly offended and I would urge other veterans to speak to the desecration of our flag. You owe us an apology. If the dog's owners can read, read this: U S Code Title 36, Chapter 10, Section 176, paragraph b: "The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water or merchandise." Section 176, paragraph d: "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery."
Further, your editors need education also to the proper display of our flag.
New 'Conan' just good enough
New 'Conan' just good enough
Despite being a wasteland so terrible people were inventing time machines just to get out of the place, the '80s were a pretty cool time for B-movie genres.
Ninjas swept the nation like a plague in black pajamas, setting the stage for years later, when Chris Farley would slap the hell out of some dudes with a pair of giant salmon. Speaking of the dead, zombies also rose once more from their graves to remind us that eating internal organs isn't just for foreigners. And did you like Star Wars ? Good because you got enough third-rate ripoffs starring space ninjas and fey droids to last you from here to a galaxy far, far away.
Fortunately for those of us who love genre flicks, we still get a lot of that stuff. Yet another '80s product has not been so lucky: the barbarian movie. For years, films like Conan the Barbarian , Beastmaster , and The Barbarians swept the big-screen steppes until suddenly they didn't. This was because, much like the Mongols before them, they were responsible for the loss of 10s
Treat it with honor
Treat it with honor
I normally enjoy the cute pictures of people's pets in the Pet Zone but not on Nov. 20. I was shocked and horrified to see "George W., an 8-year-old Jack Russell terrier" rest his dog bottom on old glory on the ground! This is not cute or funny but another example of the disrespect being shown our great country.
Our flag should to be treated with honor and displayed properly. It is not a rug or blanket, and it should never be laid on the ground. When it is time to retire, it should be done with care and reverence. I don't know who picks the pet pictures but "George W. terrier" should not earn his owners praise but serious criticism for their lack of respect for our country's flag.
