PASCO -- A week ago, the Richland boys came into Pasco and beat the Bulldogs in overtime to open the CBBN 4A district tournament.
In the locker room afterward, Pasco coach Chad Herron predicted that his team would get a shot at revenge.
Lo and behold, Pasco worked its way through the consolation bracket to indeed get another game against the Bombers at home.
This time, there was no need for dramatics. The Bulldogs dominated almost from start to finish in a 79-65 victory that wrapped up the No. 3 regional seed and a first-round home game Tuesday night against Lewis & Clark.
Richland, meanwhile, travels north to play GSL champion Gonzaga Prep in a first-round game.
"It was our passion to get them again," said Pasco senior Robert Montano, who scored a game-high 24 points. "We wanted to get them back on our home court and do what we didn't do that last time, just take care of business."
The Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-point lead late in the first quarter, saw Richland cut it to one midway through the second, then used a 10-0 run to push the lead back to double digits just before halftime.
Montano kicked off the run with a deep 3-pointer from the left corner and capped it with a coast-to-coast drive to put Pasco up 39-28 with a half-minute left in the half.
"It was better for us to get a comfortable lead so we could play our game," said Bulldogs senior Ismael Uvay, who had 19 points and nine rebounds.
Richland got no closer than seven the rest of the game. And when the Bombers turned it into a free-throw contest, the Bulldogs proved up to the task, hitting 17-of-22 in the final four minutes.
Pasco shot 51 percent (26-of-51) from the field and forced Richland into 20 turnovers that the Bulldogs converted into 22 points.
"I felt last week we were a little lackadaisical, and Richland brought their A-game," Herron said. "Tonight, the kids defended much better, and I was very happy with our shot selection. We had a steady flow of attacking the rim and finishing or kicking out for open 3s."
Next up for the Bulldogs is an LC team that upset Mead in the GSL district playoffs and lost a close game with No. 5 Gonzaga Prep in the title game before beating Ferris on Thursday to clinch a berth.
The Tigers are led by 6-foot-7 senior Sean Hoffman and junior guard Austin Ehlo, son of former NBA player Craig Ehlo.
"They're a methodical team that likes to run their sets," Herron said.
Calvin Douglas led Richland with 16 points and seven rebounds. Dylan Radliff added 13 points, nine coming in the fourth quarter.
