Boys hoops: Burbank falls at districts in 2OTs

FINLEY -- Highland outscored Columbia (Burbank) 12-5 in the second overtime Saturday night to earn a 59-52 victory in the semifinals of the SCAC boys district tournament in Finley.

The win propelled Highland, the West Division's No. 4 seed, to the 1A state tournament and into next Saturday's district title game against Granger.

Burbank, meanwhile, plays Wahluke in a winner-to-state game next Saturday, also at River View.

Nick Byrd scored a game-high 21 points for the Coyotes, who trailed 12-4 after one quarter and 32-29 after three.

FINLEY -- Cole Thompson scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the second quarter as Connell erased an early 10-5 deficit and went on to eliminate Mabton from the SCAC district tournament in Finley.

The Eagles outscored Mabton 22-14 in the second to lead 27-24 at halftime, then extended the lead to 40-32 after three quarters to reach a winner-to-state game next Saturday against Naches Valley.

Connell will likely be without SCAC East MVP Lance Whitney for the remainder of the year because of a torn meniscus in his knee. He will undergo an MRI exam Monday.

Juan De La Garza scored 12 of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter as Wahluke erased a 35-29 deficit and rallied to stay alive in the SCAC district tournament.

Marcus Martin hit three 3-pointers for River View in the fourth quarter and finished with a team-high 18 points. The Panthers finished 9-13.

ENDICOTT -- Tri-Cities Prep earned a return trip to the 1B state tournament, avenging an overtime loss to Touchet in the district semifinals and qualifying for the second time in three years.

Will Hoppes, Antonio Ledesma and Andrew LeBrun scored 15 points apiece for the Jaguars (17-6), who find out their first-round opponent at today's draw.

Touchet finished 9-14.
