My husband can be a bit of a politics freak.
He loves politics. Compared to him, I am apathetic. Truly, I am not apathetic about politics, but probably just more of a cynic with no desire to debate incessantly.
My kids? Fairly immune to the world of politics, so I was surprised the other day when my son came home and started talking about Obama.
Son (interrupting AB and I as usual): "Do you know about Broccoli Obama?"
AB: "I do know about him. What do you know about him?"
Son: "Well, I know that he is my teacher's new present."
AB: "Do you mean 'president' ?"
Son: "Yes, president. He is my teacher's president."
Me: "He is the new President of the United States. He is President of all of us."
Son: "Nope, not my President."
Me: "Yep, yours, too." (While eyeing AB out of the corner of my eye... waiting for a smirk.)
Son: "Did you know that Broccoli has carrots on his back, and he can shoot carrots off his back at the bad guys?"
(Visions of Bin Laden being stricken by carrots. Giggles abound from AB and me.)
Son: My teachers said this.
I owe my sons preschool a lot of kudos -- learning his letter sounds and how to hold a pencil, not to mention the whole potty training thing.
Now I can thank them for making my sons foray into politics at least entertaining!
