TACOMA -- The Kennewick girls are in second place with 4,928 pins and trail Emerald Ridge (4,966) by 38 after six scratch games at the 4A state tournament at Narrows Plaza Lanes.
The tournament concludes today with 14 Baker games.
Amanda Blackketter is fifth out of 62 individual bowlers for the Lions, who finished third at last year's 3A state tourney.
"The girls are playing great as a team. That's what's keeping them in the title hunt," said Kennewick coach Oscar Garnica. "With Baker, you depend a lot on your teammates for spares. It will come down to who's got the least opens and more spares. It's going to be close."
Pasco is sixth at 4,618 pins, 348 off the lead.

KENNEWICK The Kennewick Lions earned their seventh trip to state in nine years with a second-place finish in the 3A/2A competition at the District 5/6 girls bowling championship Friday at Spare Time Lanes.
Selah edged the Lions by 94 pins to take the 3A/2A title and the first of two available state berths. Moses Lake rolled a 3,639 to walk away with the 4A championship and the division's sole ticket to the state finals scheduled to begin Thursday at Narrows Plaza Bowl in Tacoma.
Kennewick had three girls place among the top eight in the 3A/2A race, with Daicee Singer third overall with 532 pins. Karissa Shiflet tied Selah's Taylor Jones for fifth with a 524, and Megan Weir finished a pin back in seventh.

Kennewick junior Karissa Shiflet became the first bowler in Lions history to win a state championship, edging Brittany Yoke of Mark Morris for the 3A girls individual title by four pins Friday at Narrows Plaza Bowl in University Place.
Shiflet finished with 1,209 total pins during the six-game series. Yoke finished with 1,205 pins. Mark Morris leads the team race heading into today's Baker round with 5,488 pins, while the Lions sit in fifth with 5,026.

KENNEWICK -- Seth Swenson scored with 2:56 left in the game to lead the Portland Winterhawks to a 3-2 victory over the Tri-City Americans on Friday at the Red Lion Hotels Preseason Tournament at Toyota Center.
Mason Wilgosh and Justin Feser each scored for the Americans, who have lost both of their games at the tournament.
Goaltender Ty Rimmer suffered his first loss of the preseason, stopping 24 of 27 shots.

KENNEWICK -- Kennewick, still riding high from its 3A/2A division title clinching victory last week against Selah, won the CBBN League title outright with a solid 3-1 defeat of 4A division champions Wenatchee on Tuesday at Spare Time Lanes.
Kennewick's Danielle Gonzales rolled a 199 to dominate the first scratch competition and Megan Weir helped dictate the outcome of the second scratch game, rolling a 202 for the Lions.
"It was a great team victory," Kennewick coach Oscar Garnica said. "The girls played awesome as a team."
