atomictown - get a half-life

Not that into 'He's Just Not That Into You'

He’s Just Not That Into You has an ensemble cast featuring some name stars: Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly and Drew Barrymore.

Some recognizable up-and-coming talent whose names you probably won’t recognize fill out the cast: Ginnifer Goodwin, Justin Long (the Mac computer pusher in commercials), and the very charismatic Bradley Cooper, who shined in last year’s Jim Carrey disaster Yes Man.

Your count may vary, but mine had at least nine main characters. The premise is a relationship-exploring chick flick that attempts to define why men and women have trouble connecting.

I’m not that romantic. Chick flicks usually have much in common with brain death and nine characters? Already I’m overloaded.

Early on, I’m surprised. Conversations in cubicles, on bar stools, in grocery store lines, in living rooms, at parties and on phones on being single, being married, and how men and women view each other are deep, and even compelling.

Though none of these conversations are that original, they do cover everything. Every nuance, every jot and tittle, every definition of male and female relationships is said in the first 45 minutes.

The movie runs 2:09.

With nowhere for the plot to go that doesn’t look like and end like an episode of a TV sitcom, after an hour He’s Just Not That Into You becomes one, blaring, droning, boring note.

And I know there is more than an hour left.

You can see my problem. At that point, I just couldn’t get any deeper into He’s Just Not That Into You. Mr. Movie rating: 2 stars

Rated PG-13 for mature themes, some language. It opens Friday, Feb. 6 at the Carmike 12 and at Fairchild Cinemas 12.

5 stars to 4 1/2 stars: Must see on the big screen
4 stars to 3 1/2 stars: Good film, see it if it's your type of movie.
3 stars to 2 1/2 stars: Wait until it comes out on video.
2 stars to 1 star: Don't bother.
0 stars: Speaks for itself.
