The Richland and Hanford boys swimming teams placed in the top 15 on Saturday at the 36-team Kentridge Invitational in Federal Way.
Hanford's Will Wertz picked up state-qualifying times with his top-10 finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (seventh, 1 minute, 50.21 seconds) and 100 free (10th, 50.02 seconds). Teammate BJ Deatherage was third in 1-meter diving.

Wertz leads Hanford swimmers
Will Wertz had two victories and one second-place finish to lead Hanford to a team title at the Walla Walla Invitational on Saturday at Whitman Pool.
Wertz won the 100-yard freestyle in a state-qualifying time of 49.65 seconds and the 100 individual medley in 57.26. He was the runner-up to Prosser's Nolan Saam in the 100 breaststroke.
Walla Walla didn't have any event wins, but Patrick Giedeman had three second-place finishes to help the Blue Devils take second in the team standings.

9:18 p.m. - Natilee Ruiz is 6-for-6 in state races. Ruiz won the 100 free in 51.00, ending the two-year reign of Anacortes senior Katie Kaestner (52.63). Prosser's Hailey Rankin was the runner-up in the 100 fly and 500 free. Great showing from the Mid-Columbia 2A duo.
