Pasco seniors Yvette Yzaguirre and Franchesea Dominguez are among area athletes who have dominated the bowling lanes through the first 10 weeks of the Central Washington girls varsity season.
"Yvette is doing really well," Bulldogs coach Teresa Chavez said of Yzaguirre, who was selected as the MVP of the 2008 regional playoffs and earned a sixth-place individual finish at the state finals.
And with 2,605 pins over 14 games, a second-highest scratch series of 437 and a 186 average -- the fourth highest average in the league behind Moses Lake's Shanice Brice (195), Eisenhower's Zaythia Cruz (190) and Kennewick's Brittany Blackketter (188) -- a repeat performance could be in the cards for Yzaguirre.
Yzaguirre bowled a 227 for Pasco on Dec. 11 at Go Bowl to highlight its 4-0 blanking of Wenatchee. It also provided Yvette with this season's second-highest individual 4A division scratch game -- the top spot is presently occupied by a 237 bowled Dec. 16 by Wenatchee's Savanna Lindenmuth who, having played in just eight games this season, also sits at first in the high scratch series category with 473.
Chavez said that the Bulldogs' Dominguez is also doing well so far, with 2,427 pins over 14 games, a high series of 407, a high game of 225 and the eighth-highest average (173).
Pasco clinched the regional championship and earned a fourth-place finish at state in 2008 and is sitting in third place with a 4-3 record and 13,494 pins -- behind No. 1 Kennewick (6-1; 14,307) and No. 2 Eisenhower (6-1; 13,602) -- but the Bulldogs have another reason to maintain their winning ways.
"Whoever wins the league will host (the district championship)," Chavez said of the playoff scheduled to take place on Jan. 27.
