Kirby Moore picked up one more accolade for his resumé before the Prosser senior begins catching passes from his brother at Boise State University.
Moore, who set two national receiving records this season, was named the 2A player of the year by The Associated Press in voting by the state's media.
Moore, the Mustangs' record-breaking receiver, picked up all but one vote for the award. Moore set a national high school record with 34 touchdown receptions this season, and finished his career with a national-record 95 TD catches. Moore had 131 receptions for 2,126 yards this season and had 304 catches in his career, the second-best total in state history.
Jake Heaps, the highly regarded junior quarterback from Skyline High School in the Seattle suburb of Sammamish, was voted the state player of the year for all classifications.
Heaps has already compiled a 28-0 record as a starting quarterback, with two state titles. Heaps is widely regarded as one of the top recruits in the country for 2009 and has been watched by seemingly every major college coach.
This season, Heaps threw for 2,888 yards and 38 touchdowns with only four interceptions, leading the Spartans to the Class 4A state title.
Southridge linebacker Taylor Powell was the only Mid-Columbian to earn first-team 4A honors, while two Hanford seniors -- Ryan Craig (offensive line) and Kody Winsor (linebacker) -- were named to the 3A first team.
