After three years of competing with -- and against -- some of the best swimmers to come through the Richland program, Nick Connors has reached the head of the class.
With that role comes responsibility, and the senior co-captain, who helped the Bombers finish third at state last season, has a few goals in mind for his teammates.
"I want us to be at the pool, work hard and have fun," he said.

There were no state qualifying times Saturday for either Hanford or Richland, but the Falcons' Jeevan Philip topped himself in the 100-yard butterfly (first, 57.47 seconds) and 100 backstroke (third, 1:03.38) as the teams easily swept Davis and Eisenhower in a CWL 4A-3A double dual at Lions Pool.

EAST WENATCHEE -- For the second straight year, the Richland and Hanford girls swim programs have risen to the top in the CBBN.
Richland defeated Wenatchee 107-79 for the 4A title and Hanford bested Eastmont 126-60 to take the 3A title in contests held Thursday at the Eastmont YMCA Aquatic Center.
"Basically, the girls went up there and swam strong and took care of business," Richland/Hanford coach Kathy Piper said.

ELLENSBURG -- Melissa Merrill and sisters Stephanie and Lisa Tixier turned in sparkling performances to help Hanford take the 3A crown at the District 5/6/7 Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday in Ellensburg.
The Falcons won nine of 12 events to finish with 546 points, outpacing second-place Southridge (331) and third-place West Valley (301).
Merrill, the CBBN 3A Swimmer of the Year, was victorious in the 200-yard individual medley and 100 freestyle, as well as in the 200 free relay with Linnea Peacock, Kayla Burnight and Taylor Fievez.
