Pasco senior Gilbert Mendoza (132 pounds) posted an 8-4 decision against Kamiakin junior Harley Kolp on Thursday, to help set up a 44-24 CBBN 3A wrestling victory against the Braves in Pasco.
It was a strong matchup of favorites, as Mendoza just missed the Top 3 cut for state in the 130-pound bracket last year and Kolp placed seventh in the 119-pound division at Mat Classic XXIII.

The Chiawana Riverhawks haven't been around very long, but judging from their record, they are building quite the tradition in wrestling.
The Riverhawks won their second CBBN 4A title in three years Tuesday night with a 36-34 road victory over Moses Lake, last year's state runner-up.
"Our kids, our staff, the parents have worked extremely hard over the last three years to build this program," Chiawana coach Jack Anderson said.

KENNEWICK The Southridge wrestling team got some quality wins Thursday night but came up short against the juggernaut known as Sunnyside, losing at home 46-28.
"We thought we had a shot to make it real close and won a couple we didn't think we would and lost a couple we thought we would," Southridge coach Dave Brown said.
Among the Suns' highlights was freshman Trenton Nett's pin of Homer Romero at 113 pounds. Nett finished off Romero in 5:40.
