BEAVERTON, Ore. -- The Washington boys were overwhelming winners Sunday at the 10th annual Nike BorderClash in Beaverton, Ore.
North Central's Andrew Kimpel (14:07.30) led the Washington crew as it took the top 14 spots and won 45-144.
Southridge standout Andrew Gonzales was fourth in 14:16.24 in the 2.75-mile race, while Kamiakin's Evan Fiske was 63rd (15:19.63).
Hanford's Erin Hegarty (17:35.91, 36th) was the top Mid-Columbian in the girls race, won by Oregon 73-98. Hermiston's Cristal Delgado (46th, 17:43.38) and Umatilla's Nancy Cardenas (62nd, 18:08.71) both ran for Oregon.
The event pits the top runners from Washington against their counterparts from Oregon.

On the annual list of the top wines from the world's largest wine periodical, Washington and Oregon are the 11 percent.
The list, which came out Monday, includes 11 wines from the Northwest. As a region, Washington and Oregon make about 5 percent of U.S. wine, and the United States produces about 7 percent of the wine in the world.

The state of Washington has discovered a new infestation of Douglas-fir tussock moths in the Blue Mountains of Washington and Oregon.
Light defoliation was mapped across 9,000 acres of the Umatilla National Forest, with most of that in Washington.
Most of the defoliation occurred in the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness Area, but it may spread and increase in severity this year.

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Another race, another win for Anthony Armstrong.
Kamiakin's star senior followed up back-to-back wins in the 3A state championship and Nike Cross Nationals Northwest regional with another big victory, crossing first Sunday at BorderClash on the Nike campus.
Armstrong zipped around the 2 3/4-mile course in 13 minutes, 48 seconds, just nipping Izaic Yorks of Lakes in Tacoma, with Shadle Park's Nathan Weitz hot on their heels.
