Adams Co. justice tax

Adams County residents were voting down one criminal justice sales tax measure and a second was too close to call.

Both need a simple majority to pass.

The first measure would provide money for juvenile detention facilities and jails, including equipment, maintenance or housing costs for juvenile offenders.

It was failing 1,666 votes, or 58 percent, to 1,188 votes, or 42 percent.

The second measure would help pay for the 911 communication system, including a possible remodel of the dispatch facility or equipment purchases.

It was ahead, 1,432 votes, or 50.3 percent, to 1,416 votes, or 49.7 percent.

Both are one-tenth of 1 percent and would raise between $150,000 and $200,000 each, said Jeffrey Stevens, Adams County Commission chairman.
