Spooks and sweets around the Mid-Columbia

Haunted and not-so-haunted happenings around the Mid-Columbia.

Haunted houses

ArtWalla Haunted House, 4-9 p.m. at the historic O'Donnell Building, 16 W. Main St., downtown Walla Walla. Admission: $5 per person or $20 for family of six. House has a maze of rooms packed with bizarre and scary spectacles. The house is split into two areas: a family-friendly section suitable for all ages and a "scare-your-socks-off" section for older kids with sturdier hearts. Call 509-301-0185.

Halloween parties

Tiny Tots Halloween Party, 10-11:30 a.m., Mid-Columbia Gymnastics & Cheer, 1523-C Fowler St., at the north end of Columbia Center Boulevard. Cost: $5. Call 735-3861.

Halloween Party, 2:30-3:30 p.m., West Richland Library, 3803 W. Van Giesen St. Free. Children can get their faces painted to match their costumes. Storytelling also is featured.

Halloween Costume Contest, 3-5 p.m., Pasco library, 1320 W. Hopkins St. Free.

Haunted Halloween Party, 3-5 p.m., main branch of the Mid-Columbia Library, 1620 S. Union St., Kennewick. Free. Special guest at the event will be the So-They-Say Storytellers.

Halloween Story Time, 3:30 p.m., Merrill's Corner, 5240 Eltopia West, Eltopia. Costumes encouraged and kids will receive a free book.

Ranch & Home's Halloween party for all ages, 4-7 p.m., in the store's parking lot off Columbia Center Boulevard, Kennewick. Informational booths featuring a variety of topics will be set up, and all the vendors will have treats for the kids. There is no cost.

Halloween costume ball and dance starts at 6 p.m., Classic Island Casino behind Columbia Center mall, Kennewick. Admission: $5. Open dancing is from 6 to 9 p.m. followed by live music by Foolish Fortune.

Trunk or Treat party, 6-8 p.m., Garden Christian Assembly Church, 7425 W. Clearwater Ave., Kennewick. Festivities include games, costume contest, food and candy distributed from the trunks of family cars. All ages. Call 735-1650.

8th Annual Harvest Party, 6-8 p.m., City Church, 4624 W. 10th Ave., Kennewick. Festivities include concessions, candy, carnival games, bouncy castles, a Dark Room, face painting and Trunk or Treat. Cost: 10 cents per game.

Harvest party, 6-9 p.m., Columbia Foursquare Church, 700 Comstock St., Richland. Festivities include games, face painting, candy, drama skits and more. All ages. Admission is free. Call 946-6804.

Family Fright Night, 6-10 p.m., Housel Middle School, 2001 Highland Drive, Prosser. There will be clowns, face painting, a big slide, gladiator jousting, a bounce house, cake walk, popcorn, candy and more. Admission: Donation of one bag of candy per family.

Mid-Columbia Gymnastics & Cheer Halloween party, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the gym, 1523-C Fowler St., at the north end of Columbia Center Boulevard. Festivities include costume contest, cookie decorating, snacks and drinks, foam pits, bounce house, trampolines, tumble track, rope swing, mummy wrap and more. Cost: $10. Open to kids 5-12. Costume contest, 9 p.m., The Parkade Bar & Grill, 207 W. Kennewick Ave. No cover. 21 and older.

Corn mazes

Country Mercantile maze and other Halloween festivities, 232 Crestloch Road, off Highway 395 north of Pasco. Events through October include straw bale maze, petting zoo, pumpkin patch and hay rides through the corn maze. Store hours: 8 a.m.-7 p.m. daily. Hayrides given 9 a.m.-dusk. Cost for all events is $6. Call 545-2192.

Hermiston 10-acre corn maze is open through Nov. 1 at 1300 S. Highway 395 at the south end of town near the water tower. Hours: 5-10 p.m. Friday, noon-10 p.m. Saturday. Admission: $7 adults, $5 ages 5-11 and free ages 4 and younger. The maze also features a haunted house, which costs an additional $7 to tour. Free hayrides and a pumpkin patch also available. Straw Maze is open through Nov. 1 at the Othello Rodeo grounds on Reynolds Road west of Highway 17. The maze is not haunted 6-7 p.m. Haunting is 7-11 p.m. Cost: $3. All ages. Call 509-431-1411.

The Maize is open through Nov. 9 at Haywire Farms, off Road 68 in Pasco. Hours: 4-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 4-10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Cost: $9.50 ages 12 and older, $7.50 ages 4-11 and free for kids 3 and younger. There's an additional $4 fee to tackle the haunted section of the corn maze. Call 545-8124.

Out-of-town events

Museum of Fright, 4-9 p.m. at the Museum of Flight, 9404 E. Marginal Way S., Seattle. Free admission. Info: www.museumofflight.org or call 206-768-7105.

Hollywood Nights Halloween party, 8 p.m., Showbox Theater, 1426 First Ave., Seattle. Festivities include a costume contest, tarot readers, psychic readers, astrologers and more. Cost: $29. Tickets: www.halloweenseattle.com. Headline act is Seattle's top dance band Cool-Ade. 21 and older.

Fright Town is open through Nov. 1 at Memorial Coliseum's Rose Garden in Portland. The town features three haunted houses under one roof -- Baron Von Goolo's Museum of Horrors & Spring Break of the Living Dead, The Asylum and Chop Shop. For obvious reasons, none is recommended for the squeamish. Hours: 7-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Cost: $20 gets you into all three houses. Info: www.frighttown.com.
