Cross country roundup: Suns boys, Bombers girls sweep

By the Herald staff

KENNEWICK -- The Southridge boys wrapped up second place in the CBBN cross country dual-meet standings Thursday by edging Kamiakin at a seven-team meet at Lawrence Scott Park.

The Richland girls, meanwhile, got past Davis in a matchup of ranked teams at Franklin Park to win the dual-meet crown.

Suns senior Andrew Gonzales crushed the field in Kennewick, finishing the flat 3-mile course in 14 minutes, 46 seconds to win by 54 seconds. But it was Southridge's depth, with three runners in the top five, that made the difference in its 27-29 win over the Braves.

The Suns also beat Eastmont and Hanford.

In Yakima, the Bombers' depth also prevailed against Davis' 1-2 punch of Shawna Schooley and Sandra Martinez.

Richland put its five scoring runners in the top 12 en route to a 26-31 victory over the Pirates -- the Bombers also beat Eisenhower, Sunnyside and Walla Walla at the meet.
