A community volunteer day for rolling out the sod is planned Friday to finish landscaping the home of reservist Burke Jensen and his wife Heidi.
The developer of the Oak Hill Estates subdivision off Oak Street in south Kennewick threatened legal action because Jensen did not have his 2.5-acre property landscaped before Jensen was deployed to the Middle East.
The volunteer effort coordinated by Montgomery Construction of Richland has brought dozens of people and businesses together to put in the new yard, including 18,000 square feet of sod to be laid Friday.
Tim Montgomery said anyone who wants to volunteer can show up Friday morning after 9 a.m. A flagpole dedication at 2 p.m. Sunday will include an opportunity for volunteers to put their handprints in wet concrete as a helping hands gesture for the Jensens when they return to Kennewick next fall.
Heidi Jensen, who gave birth to the couple's first child this summer, is living with relatives in another state while her husband is overseas.
