A Morrow County high school teacher has been charged for illegally selling school books on eBay.
Forrest Dean McKinnis, 30, of Heppner, was charged Friday with first-degree theft and first-degree official misconduct. McKinnis was a PE teacher at Riverside High School teaching weight lifting, according to the school's online classroom pages.
The Morrow County Sheriff's Office began investigating a possible theft of school material on Sept. 17, the sheriff's office said.
McKinnis, who has worked for the district for about five years, is accused of taking surplus history books and putting them up for sale this summer on eBay, Superintendent Mark Burrows said.
The books were about five years old, but some never had been used. They were stored in a common area in the high school.
The sheriff's office said the books were valued at $2,600.
McKinnis was placed on paid administrative leave.
