Erdmann leads with first-round 65

From Herald news services

RICHLAND -- Scott Erdmann, a professional from Lake Oswego Country Club, took the first-round lead Monday at the Windermere Northwest Open Invitational at Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland.

Erdmann fired a 7-under-par 65, making seven birdies in the round.

Defending champion Jeff Coston, a professional from Semiahmoo in Blaine, trails by one stroke in second place.

Overlake's Pat Howard, a former Tri-Citian, sits in third at 67.

Birk Nelson, a former Columbia Basin College player now at Diamond Woods, and Walla Walla Country Club's Brady Sharp are tied for fourth at 68 -- along with another ex-CBC golfer, Dan Whitaker (an amateur out of Suncadia), and amateur Alex Stamey.

The 54-hole tournament resumes at 7:30 a.m. today with players teeing off on both No. 1 and 10.

Today's tee times are at the end of this story, while all first-round scores in in the Scoreboard.
