The Mid-Columbia's two Paralympians had great success Saturday in Beijing.

Walla Walla graduate David Wagner teamed with Nick Taylor to win the gold medal in Quad Doubles tennis.

Wagner also won the Quad Singles bronze medal.

And at the Bird's Nest on Saturday night, Benton City's Chelsea McClammer qualified for the finals in the women's wheelchair 800 meters.

Wagner and Taylor defeated Israel's Boaz Kramer and Shraga Weinberg 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 to capture the gold for the second straight Paralympics. They also won in Athens in 2004.

"I think (Kramer and Weinberg) played better in the second set, but we were fortunate enough to get it back," Wagner told the press after the match.

Earlier in the day, Wagner beat Taylor 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 to take the bronze.

The match was not the first time Wagner and Taylor have faced off.

"It tends to happen a lot," Wagner said. "Nick is third in the world, and it's pretty apparent from the score that we know each other's game. He played really well. You want to win on the court, but you're still friends."

Meanwhile, McClammer made her Paralympics debut at the age of 14. She is the United States' youngest Paralympian, and in her 800-meter semifinal, she was the youngest of the five competitors by seven years.

And while she finished last in her heat, her time of 1:57.09 was fast enough for her to qualify for the finals, which are set for 4:25 a.m. today. McClammer's mother, Rebecca Grimes, said that McClammer's time was 12 seconds better than anything she had done before.

Canada's Chantal Petitclerc, 38, had the fastest qualifying time (1:50.51).
