WEST RICHLAND, Wash. - The annual Harvest Festival kicks off at 11 a.m. Sept. 20 at Flat Top Park in West Richland.
The event features a farmers market, kids games, musical entertainment, a hot dog and hamburger barbecue, arts and crafts booths, face paintings and a plethora of other fun stuff.
There is no admission charge. Catch next week's AT for a full schedule of events.
And just to get you warmed up for the Harvest Fest, you can hang with some red hot chili pepper fanatics Sept. 13-14 in downtown Pasco when the Fiery Foods Festival gets under way.
The festival opens at 10 a.m. each day and features a sweet and savory salsa contest starting at 8 a.m. Sept. 13.
Visitors can watch salsa chefs match wits with recipes for a shot at the title. A public salsa tasting starts at 12:30 p.m.
And if the spicy salsa doesn't fire up your tastebuds, then maybe the Chili Pepper Eating Contest will. It starts at 4 p.m. Sept. 13. Participants must be at least 18 to participate. Entry fee is $10. The contest will pit men against women and feature seven types of peppers ranging from hot to hottest.
The beer garden entertainment lineup for Sept. 13 includes Colorblind at 5 p.m., Mudshark at 7:30 p.m. and Junkyard Jane at 9:30 p.m. Cover is $5. The beer garden is open to the 21 and older crowd only.
On Sept. 14, the street music features various local Mexican bands including Renovacion de la Sierra, Oasis Musical, Perros del Camino and Grupo Vega from noon to 5 p.m.
There also will be a plethora of dance demonstrations and other musical events happening throughout both days of the festival.

The NorthWestival 2011, a celebration of Northwest music, art and food, will be Sept. 24 at the Umatilla County Fairgrounds in Hermiston.
The festival starts at noon and continues through midnight featuring live music from all genres, food vendors from around the region and a selection of artworks by various Mid-Columbia artists.
The festival is the brain child of Cary Hays, a Hermiston native, who spent several years exploring the Mid-Columbia's music culture in search of talent and knowledge of the music business.

Daylong festivities include music by accordion player Gary Malner, the Mahura Marimba Band, Tri-City Tappers, Sevigny Sisters, Bram Brata steeldrum band, jazz singer Adrienne Bousquet, High Desert Gypsies dance troupe and the Diamond Ridge Cloggers.
There is no admission fee. The festival also features arts and crafts, a farmers market and games for kids.

Maryhill Winery Labor Day Weekend Event is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 3-5 at the winery overlooking the Columbia River, 9774 Highway 14, Goldendale.
Festivities include a barbecue, live music, wine tasting and other activities for the whole family. Featured musical performers include Wayman Chapman on Sept. 3, Island Jazz Quintet on Sept. 4, and Carlyle on Sept. 5. Music will be performed from 1 to 5 p.m. each day.
