TVW profiles state's downballot races

If you’re a candidate for statewide office this fall and your name isn’t Chris Gregoire or Dino Rossi you might feel like your campaign is getting a little ignored.

Races for public lands commissioner, superintendent of public instruction, treasurer, secretary of state, auditor, Lieutenant governor, insurance commissioner and even attorney general struggle to gain attention. Television and radio blow them off altogether.

Even newspapers struggle to find space and time to report on the races repeatedly.

That’s why it’s worth noting that TVW’s Inside Olympia program has begun a series of interviews with candidates for each of these offices and is archiving the shows on its website.

It began the series last week with the race for insurance commissioner and will debut interviews with candidates for another office each week through Oct. 30.

Here's the full schedule.

— Sept. 4: Insurance Commissioner candidates Mike Kreidler and John Adams

— Sept. 11: Lieutenant Governor candidates Brad Owen and Marcia McCraw

— Sept. 18: State Auditor candidates Brian Sonntag and Dick McEntee

— Sept. 25: Secretary of State candidates Sam Reed and Jason Osgood

— Oct. 2: Commissioner of Public Lands candidates Doug Sutherland and Peter Goldmark

— Oct 9: State Treasurer candidates Allan Martin and Jim McIntire

— Oct 16: Superintendent of Public Instruction candidates Terry Bergeson and Randy Dorn

— Oct 23: Attorney General candidates Rob McKenna and John Ladenburg

— Oct 30: Governor candidates Chris Gregoire and Dino Rossi
