The Whitworth University Laureate Society named 13 students who qualified for the academic honor during the spring semester of 2008: Michelle Creek, Deidra Stands, Lindsay Johnston, Lyle Rauh, Evan Staley and Lora Roosendaal, all of Kennewick; Michaela Allen, Angela Hartley, Derek Higgins, Sarah Mowry and Diana Stapp, all of Richland; and Joy Bacon and Ashley Borders of West Richland. The students qualified by maintaining a grade-point average of at least 3.75 during the semester. Whitworth is a private liberal-arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in Spokane.

William P. Robinson, president emeritus of Whitworth University in Spokane, will speak Friday and Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 2001 W. Kennewick Ave., Kennewick.
His topic, at 6 p.m. Friday, will be "How Men Get Into Messes." Dinner will follow. Cost is $30 and those 18 years old and under are free.
Robinson will give a free presentation, "Fifteen Leadership Lessons from the Life of Jesus," at 9 a.m. Saturday.

KENNEWICK -- When the Tri-City Dust Devils aren't in town this summer, baseball fans can continue to get their baseball fix by travelling to Walla Walla and watching the Sweets play in the West Coast League, a summer league.
There's quite a local connection so far with the Sweets roster.

Two Tri-Citians were named first-team Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's volleyball all-stars last week.
Lindsey Wodrich and Shelby Swanson, who both play for Seattle Pacific University, were both honored this week.
Wodrich, a senior from Richland High, was a unanimous and repeat selection at outside hitter. She led 21-7 SPU with 394 kills and had 288 digs.
