The state Supreme Court this morning ruled that Initiative 1029 will remain on the Nov. 4 ballot.
Opponents argued that the long-term care worker training measure should go to the Legislature since signatures appeared on petitions identifying the measure as an initiative to the Legislature. The I-1029 campaign, backed by the powerful Service Employees International Union, said it was a simple mistake.
The Secretary of States office reviewed the matter and decided to accept the more than 300,000 signatures that were submitted before that decision was challenged.
Ill update this post once more reaction comes in.

In Washington state, home care workers care for more than 47,000 of our seniors and people with disabilities, despite having little training and no federal background checks. In fact, to become a home care worker here doesn't require a certification test, pays very little and provides less than half the amount of training of that received by a nursing home assistant.
While we do the same jobs as nursing home care assistants, home care workers receive just 34 hours of training, at the most. Many workers like myself are charged with caring for people with serious medical conditions we've never received any training on. Despite the serious importance of our jobs, we are barely recognized as professionals.
Three years ago, the voters of Washington passed Initiative 1029, which would have increased our training hours and required federal background checks. These steps would ensure that there are more qualified, screened home care workers to provide care for the aging baby boomer generation. And it's just as

The public passed initiative 1029, requiring long-term caregivers to receive training. Did you know that you are supposed to be paying for it? You are supposed to be paying for the person to take the training, someone to cover their shift and someone to train them!
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has spent over $1 milllion dollars on this new initiative. Why? Because legislators last session decided services to the elderly and disabled were more important than extra training.
I personally thank them for this. Services are minimal and needed greatly! If passed, $31 million will be needed in the first year. The money needs to come from somewhere!

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Will the pressure of starting his first collegiate game get to Nick Montana?
It doesn't seem likely, considering he grew up playing quarterback as the son of one the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. Being the son of Joe Montana and playing his position? Now that's some pressure.
And the comparisons will continue today when Montana takes the field at Reser Stadium for the Huskies.
