Hydroplane community loses crew hand

By the Herald staff

SEATTLE -- Roger Newton, a long-time fixture in boat racing, passed away Saturday after complications from heart surgery.

Newton had suffered a heart attack after the Columbia Cup in Kennewick and had been in a Seattle hospital since. He had been working as a propeller specialist for the Greg O'Farrell's U-48 and U-50 unlimited hydroplane teams recently.

He also had been a crew chief for Ken Muscatel and an Unlimited Hydroplane Raceboat Museum volunteer.
