Several events are planned at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kennewick through Thursday as part of Parish Mission Week.
A men's prayer breakfast, children's jamboree and women's prayer luncheon are planned today. Events for middle and high school students and a session on prayer and going deeper into adoration time are Sunday.
A luncheon for widows and widowers is Wednesday.
There also are daily sessions Monday through Thursday. The morning class, "School of the Spiritual Life," is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The evening session starts with a potluck at 5 p.m. and is followed by a message and adoration and prayer for healing.
Catholic lay minister Brendan Case is leading the mission. Donations will be accepted.
The church is at 520 S. Garfield St.

I was one of the 19 employees recently laid off from Lourdes Medical Center. After nearly 30 years, I can say that the staff is great to work with, and I want to give them my prayers as they face many changes coming.
This country faces many changes in medicine, and I was just a victim of times and a recession. I didn't take it personally, it was the position that was cut.
Many friends and co-workers have been supportive and my church family (Richland Church of the Nazarene) has been there in prayers and support as well.

Seniors can learn how to save money on their utility bills through conservation or low-income discounts Wednesday.
The Benton Public Utility District plans its annual senior day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Kennewick and Prosser.
Customers can receive help enrolling in programs for low income people either over 62 or with disabilities. More people now are eligible for the discounts of 15 percent to 20 percent after rules were changed to include those with household incomes up to 200 percent of the poverty level.

Readers, writers and any other interested parties are invited to take part in the annual Rivers of Ink event from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Richland Community Center.
The event is free and open to the public. Guest writer will be Christy Leskovar, author of One Night in a Bad Inn .
Session topics include what's hot and what's not, current trends in the book world, e-publishing, traditional publishing, writing life stories, poetry, rhyme and other topics.
