Im a firm believer in mass transit, and committed to the idea that people should ditch their gas-guzzling SUVs and try something more efficient, like a smaller, more economical car, a bike, or some sort of public transportation.
And Ive spent my entire life furthering a love affair with trains that began when I was very, very young. So my current employment with Colorado Railcar Manufacturing, the United States only passenger railcar builder, is a dream come true.
The biggest disadvantage so far has been living in Colorado, which is not only a LONG way from my family back here in the Northwest, but its a barren wasteland for boat racing as well.
It would seem that being attached to a transit project in the Portland area would be a case of perfect timing, but so far, that hasnt been the case. In many ways, my love of trains is cut from the same fabric as my love of boat racing. And the two havent ever collided. Until now.
As I type, I am sitting onboard railcar CRMX 1001, a brand-new, state of the art DMU. It is a very unique concept in the industry a kind of locomotive and passenger car all rolled into one. My heart is in Tri-Cities right now, and soon enough I will be too. So dont forget about me. It already looks like TC will be the best race of the season so far. Thats a very satisfying change from last year. And I am happy to have the Unlimited Lights back in town for this as well.

The Pasco City Council will likely remain unchanged come January.
Incumbents Rebecca Francik and Al Yenney each had more than a 1,000-vote lead over their opponents Tuesday night.
Yenney, who is finishing his first term in the District 1 position, received nearly 61 percent, or 2,806 votes. Andrew Johnson, a former real estate agent, received 1,797 votes, or 39 percent.

I covered the Tri-City Championships on Saturday at Serier Pool in Kennewick. It was my first swim meet ever, and I enjoyed checking out the races and the atmosphere.
Between heats, I was checking my notes when I started hearing a Jonas Brothers song. I realized it was coming from the Kennewick High School team, which chose to unwind in a corner of the pool area by listening to Nick, Joe and Kevin. (I know their names because two of the guys' names are Backstreet Boys names. So sue me — I was a teenage girl once.)
Girls were cheering on girls from other schools and running around to hang out with their friends during down time. It seemed as much a social event as a competitive one.
