50-word statement: I am honored to seek re-election as your Benton County District 1 Commissioner. Together we have accomplished a great deal over the past 12 years. I have carefully listened to your ideas and your concerns, and worked hard to make the best possible decisions in your interests and those of our children and grandchildren.
I have kept my original promise to you in the governance of the county and its affairs. That promise was to: create an effective and efficient county government; maintain a fiscally responsible and responsive budget; and, preserve our quality of life.
I have been able to deliver on that promise because of the strong partnerships I have built with the ports, the cities, our state and local governments, and most importantly, with you whose opinions and ideas I value most.
There are many challenges ahead. We must continue to be vigilant in maintaining a healthy economy through job growth, stretching tax dollars to the fullest, protecting our natural resources, maintaining a strong transportation system, and working to keep our citizens healthy and safe.
I'm looking forward to meeting these challenges and continuing the impressive progress we've made in making our region a great place to live.
Three priorities:
Maintaining strong partnerships cities, ports, industry, and citizens.
Leveraging resources to provide for quality services and preserve our quality of life:
Developing a Consolidated Crisis Response Center (CCRC).
Developing an appropriate animal control program.

As chairman of the board for Benton County Fire District 6, I would like to take this opportunity to urge you to vote for Gerry Sherman for commissioner in Fire District 3.
Gerry has worked for Fire District 6 for the past 12 years as the district administrator. He has an excellent working knowledge of all administrative aspects that face a fire district on a monthly basis.
He is responsible for accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgeting, all human resources functions, payroll and audits. We use him to review all correspondence, contracts and official documents that come before the board.

Study to look at merging counties' dispatch centers
PASCO -- A state study on consolidating 911 services may help Benton and Franklin counties decide whether they should fuse together emergency dispatch centers.
Franklin County commissioners unanimously approved Wednesday a memorandum of understanding with Benton County that would allow the state to pay for the study.
The cities, counties and fire districts in Benton and Franklin counties have been discussing combining Franklin County's dispatch center and SECOMM, or Southeast Communications Center.

There are two good, qualified men running for the position of Fire Commissioner for Benton County Fire District #3 this year. Both would do a good job. However, Tim Stewart has the hands-on experience with more than 33 years as a volunteer firefighter that we need to move our fire district forward and serve the people to the best extent possible.
Tim, on his own initiative, obtained the necessary training and dedicated himself to becoming one of the most highly qualified firefighters in the history of our district.
Tim has earned the qualification of Task Force Strike Team Leader and has been a highly respected leader on numerous state and national incidents.

Benton Franklin Health Board's budget balanced - for now
The budget presented to the Benton Franklin Health Board on Friday was balanced without staff layoffs -- but that may be only a temporary achievement.
Looming state budget cuts are likely to affect the bottom line, and Benton and Franklin county commissioners are questioning their own contributions to the district.
The $8.8 million budget relies on more than $4 million in state and federal grants and more than $1 million in local government assistance money from the state's motor vehicle excise tax.

As a fire commissioner serving on the Benton County Fire District 3 board, I know we need a person with board experience to be an active participant on the board. We need someone with no agenda or motives other than to serve and make the county safer and our fire department the best it can be. I feel that Gerry Sherman is the best candidate for this position.
Gerry has been attending yearly Washington State Fire Commissioner Association, Washington State Fire Chief's Association and Washington Finance Officers Association conferences to keep up to date on ever-changing board and fire department issues. Gerry's previous board member experience and 12 years as district secretary for Benton Co. District 6 make him, in my opinion, the best candidate for fire commissioner.
Recently, the Benton County commissioners were asked to choose a person to fill a vacant commissioner position on Benton County Fire District 3 Board. Three applicants interviewed and Gerry Sherman was appointed to fill the position by the
