50-word statement: Three generations of my family worked at Kaiser Aluminum. My parents' union jobs allowed me to be the first person in my family to graduate from college. My Whitworth education taught me the value of serving my community. I'm asking for your vote in order to continue serving our community.
Three priorities:
1. I will spend my campaign listening to the people of the 9th District, in order to serve them in Olympia.
2. All students deserve access to the best education. College tuition rates need to be lower, and financial aid programs need to be increased. The WASL should not be a high school graduation requirement.
3. Public health care should be expanded to include all people. We need to stop rising deductibles and co-pays, so we can all afford to go to the doctor when we are sick.

Many ways to serve
Regarding Logan Ecclestone's letter on Sept. 20, the senior in high school who is looking forward to serving his country. First, thank you, Logan, for taking the time to write a thoughtful letter to the paper. In a most important way, you're already "serving your country" by participating in the dialogue in the democracy.
Your desire to join the Marines and serve in combat is all too understandable, but to me your vision needs to expand and take in more of the world than what can be seen through a gun sight. In fact, that's what you're supposed to be doing at this stage of your life, expanding your knowledge and experience, and learning how the world works. There are countless possibilities after high school for you to serve your country, and even serve people no matter where they live.
Your views seemed a bit selfish when I first read your letter, worrying that the war might end before you got a chance to participate. But you're a young man and it sounded like your heart was in the right place. I just

Considering the rocky history of the carousel project, I think citizens will favor completion of the project only if it can be located in a 24/7 secured facility or location, with no further expenditure of public funds. It will need to be proven to be financially self-sustaining and protected from vandalism before it is installed. The arson fire at the Playground of Dreams and desecration of the Veterans Memorial serve to remind us that not all Tri-Cities' residents respect community improvements.

Kennewick schools: White, Creek
In the Kennewick School Board race my votes will go to Kathy White and Uby Creek. White is committed to developing a professional school board that will best serve the needs of Kennewick families. Her participation in training from the Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA) and encouragement for other board members to engage in improving their work as board members is essential for meeting the needs of all students.
By attending school board meetings the past five years, Creek has informed herself of school district business and the issues confronting our students, parents and staff. Creek has lived life in an immigrant family and has risen to success in education for herself and her children. She is an inspiration for all who aspire to a better life and is committed to working with Kennewick families to help them help their children be successful in school.

Port of Walla Walla: Fredrickson
Port of Walla Walla: Fredrickson
This letter is to urge Burbank residents to support Michael Fredrickson for the Port of Walla Walla Board of Commissioners. I served with Mike on the county planning commission and feel qualified to assure you that Mike has plenty of ability to continue to steer our port district with enthusiasm and excellence.
Our years on the planning commission together showed me that Mike's natural leadership ability easily earns the respect of all who work with him and that Mike has an impressive awareness of the county's characteristics and needs for the future. Please join me in re-electing Michael Fredrickson.
