Three priorities:
- Work with the governor and the legislature to develop a long term plan to finance the capital investments needed in schools, transportation systems, and local infrastructure to keep our economy moving forward.
- Protect the taxpayers' money by making smart investments and structuring our state debt in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Ensure our worker's compensation and pension funds are invested intelligently and remain fiscally healthy.

KENNEWICK --Washington State Treasurer Jim McIntire doesn't believe the state is in any immediate danger of losing its AA+ credit rating, which was reaffirmed by Wall Street last month.
But McIntire told members of the Washington State Transit Association in Kennewick on Monday that he would like to see the Legislature look at the state's mounting debt and form a sustainable strategy for future borrowing.
"I'm doing this as a prelude to ask the question, 'How do we do a better job of planning for capital investments to get our economy growing,' " McIntire said. "Getting the Legislature to think about how we use debt is an important part of the process."

It is easy to point to other states and localities regarding the wasteful use of taxpayer money. But here we have one in our own backyard. While there is some historical significance to what happened in 1922 regarding the transfer of oil reserves, is it worth the use of $412,000 of public funds to move this old building (for the second time)?
I think the city of Zillah could be better served by allocating critical investments for promoting agricultural tourism or other relevant attractions.
