Im off today but am still keeping tabs on election filings and took note that U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers has drawn a Republican challenger.
Its Clarkston conservative Kurt Erickson. This is the first Ive heard of the guy but hes got quite an extensive website where he lays out his positions on an array of issues from abortion to gun rights to immigration to budget policy.
Seemingly out of nowhere McMorris Rodgers now has four challengers. Others include Spokane Democrat Mark Mays, Spokane Libertarian John Beck and Spokane Democrat Barbara Lampert.
UPDATE: The Constitution Party's Randall Yearout from Otis Orchards just signed up to run for the seat, too.

Ruling on wind power questioned
Washington's congressional delegation is questioning a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's ruling in favor of Northwest wind power generator operators.
Eighteen bipartisan Northwest senators and representatives sent a letter Tuesday to Energy Secretary Steven Chu as the region is weeks away from the spring snowmelt season.
At issue is FERC's December ruling that the Bonneville Power Administration discriminated against wind power generators when it limited the output from power generators other than hydroelectric power generators last year during high seasonal water flows.

I have to hand it to U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings, who recently scored an 88 percent on 10 key issues regarding constitutional authority and upholding the constitution in general.
The John Birch Society's annual "Freedom Index" was released recently and it rates "all members of the House and Senate based on their adherence to constitutional principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, national sovereignty and a traditional foreign policy of avoiding foreign entanglements." See for yourself at www.jbs.org. Click on "Voting Index" at the top of the page.
Hastings scored highest amongst our Washington House members. Two other Washington House members scored a good 80 percent (Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Jaime Herrera Beutler). Five Washington members of Congress earned scores of 20 percent or less and one scored zero! Our Washington senators scored 20 percent and 30 percent.

WASHINGTON -- The economy may be suffering, but members of Congress appear to be doing quite well, with nearly half of them ranking as millionaires, according to a study released Tuesday.
In Washington, Democratic Sen. Maria Cantwell and Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, are the wealthiest among the 249 current members of Congress who are millionaires.
That means 47 percent of the 535 members are millionaires. Only about 1 percent of Americans are millionaires.

Oregon State already banged up before opener
Oregon State already banged up before opener
CORVALLIS, Ore. -- It seems like the Oregon State Beavers always do exactly what no one expects from them.
Whenever the Beavers look like they'll have a successful season, they tend to falter. Take last year, when they were ranked heading into the season and performed admirably in an opening loss against TCU.
In the end, Oregon State finished a disappointing 5-7 and failed to make the postseason for the first time since 2005.
