Alleged "dirty hippie" running for governor

Say this with me. Governor Duff Badgley.

Why? Because Seattle’s Duff Badgley is running for governor representing the Green Party.

Who is he? According to this post on the environmental news blog Gristmill “Duff is an old-school, grassroots, car-free, long-haired, bleeding-heart, dirty hippie environmentalist.”

His filing showed up today. He’s mini-reporting, so he won’t raise or spend much money.

And an April edition of Greener Times, an e-publication put out by the Green Party of Washington State, indicated the party has modest expectations.

“In all honesty, candidates such as Duff stand little chance of being one of the top two ‘winners’ in the primary, so the purpose of these races is to promote one or more of the 10 key values in the form of limited campaigning and the candidate’s statement in the state voters pamphlet that will be sent to over 3 million Washington voters,” a story there read.

Badgley is the ninth candidate in the race. Others include independents James White and Christopher Tudor, Chris Hoeppner from the Socialist Workers party, Democrats Javier Lopez, Christine Gregoire and Elias Oviedo and Republicans John Aiken and Dino Rossi. White has only recently switched from running as a Democrat to an independent.
