One player's team is making a deep run in the postseason for the second straight year, and the other's team had a premature end to its season, just like their star.
Kamiakin's Zach Umemoto and Chiawana's Jordan Downing share a lot of traits as hard-nosed running backs and hard-hitting linebackers.

The Kamiakin girls basketball team looks locked and loaded in the early going of the season.

Seven Mid-Columbia teams reached the 2010 girls state soccer tournament -- Chiawana (4A), Southridge and Hanford (3A), Othello and Prosser (2A), Kiona-Benton (1A) and Warden (2B).

Last year was a banner year for the Kamiakin Braves, which won their first league championship since 1995 and recorded their highest finish at state (third) since 1992.
With twin towers Justin Pedley and Zach En'Wezoh anchoring the low block, some coaches think the Braves could be even better this season.
"Guards can get you to state, but when you get to the (Tacoma) Dome, you're going to face some much bigger teams," Chiawana coach Chad Herron said. "With (En'Wezoh and Pedley), they can hold their own against those teams."
