Fife Mayor Pro Tem Rob Cerqui
Fife Councilman Robert Cerqui has filed paperwork setting up a Democratic campaign for the state House seat being vacated by Rep. Joyce McDonald, R-Puyallup.
Cerqui was elected to the council in 2003 and re-elected in November. His brief city bio indicates he comes from a long line of Fife Farmers and is proud to still toil in his agricultural roots.
Already seeking the seat is Republican Bruce Dammeier, a member of the Puyallup School Board, and the Progressive Partys Laurence Pratt, also of Puyallup.
Through the end of April Dammeier had raised almost $74,000 for his campaign.
UPDATE: I don't know why but candidates for legislative offices in the Tacoma area never think to e-mail their press releases to the Tri-City Herald. I'm kidding.
It turns out my scoop lasted for only about 90 minutes or so because Cerqui shipped a release to the News Tribune, which then posted it on its Political Buzz blog, which you can find here.
UPDATE: An earlier version erroneously referred to McDonald as "D-Puyallup." She's a Republican. Not sure how that got goofed up. My apologies.

QUINCY -- A Connell woman was injured when she rolled her car Saturday on White Trail Road five miles west of Quincy.
Melissa Koch, 27, of Connell, was driving east at 5:11 p.m. when she lost control of her car, according to the Washington State Patrol. She was taken by ambulance to Quincy Valley Hospital.

WALLA WALLA -- Two young women were injured Monday afternoon in an accident at the Highway 12 and Heritage Road intersection three miles west of Walla Walla.
Victoria Holder, 20, of Walnut, Calif., was taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. Her passenger, Abigal Salazer, 20, of New York was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Holder was driving a Prius north on Heritage Road at 3:37 p.m. when her car hit a pickup at the intersection of Highway 12, according to the Washington State Patrol. She failed to yield, police reports said.

The new eTickets mean the public can go to the fair's website and buy admission tickets as well as carnival wristbands and tickets to any other special event, such as main stage entertainment concerts, demolition derby or the rodeo.
The website also allows fairgoers to choose their reserved seats for the shows.

Challengers Cook, Elston in lead for Ki-Be School Board
BENTON CITY -- Two men who ran for the Kiona-Benton City School Board on similar platforms, calling for improved communication and fewer outside contracts to save money, appear to be its newest members.
Tim Cook in District 1 and Wayne J. Elston representing District 4 were leading after unofficial results Tuesday night.
Jill M. Renz-Whitman, who challenged Cook, may have lost the race but will keep her District 3 seat for two more years.
