Jeff Morrow was born and raised in the Tri-Cities. He graduated from Eastern Washington University with a degree in journalism, then returned home and got a job with the Herald in 1985. He's been here ever since, and has seen a lot in the Mid-Columbia sports community.

What to watch on Super Bowl weekend, and beyond

Here’s a look at some upcoming sports events over the next week:

Saturday The National Football League announce its new inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Watch the live press conference on the NFL Channel at 11:30 a.m.

-- Two of the Columbia Basin Big Nine’s top girls basketball teams meet at 7:30 p.m. when Walla Walla visits Hanford.

SundaySuper Bowl Sunday. The actual kickoff is at 3:28 p.m. on NBC. But the pre-game shows go on for hours. NBC’s starts at 10 a.m. But ESPN goes live at 7 a.m., while the NFL Network starts at 8 a.m.

Feb. 2Suffering from baseball withdrawal? How about watching the Caribbean World Series on the MLB Network? At 2 p.m., Venezulea plays the Dominican Republic. At 7 p.m., Puerto Rico takes on Mexico. The series continues live on the MLB Network every day this week at 2 p.m.

Feb. 6-7The state high school girls bowling tournament begins a month’s worth of state playoffs in bowling, boys swimming, gymnastics, wrestling and boys and girls basketball. Kennewick and Pasco will compete for the 4A state title in girls bowling, which takes place in University Place.

Feb. 7 How about this Saturday tripleheader? The NASCAR Sprint Cup Budweiser Shootout at Daytona Beach denotes the first actual competition for auto racing. It starts at 5 p.m. on FOX.

-- Over on ESPN at 6 p.m., Memphis visits Gonzaga in a key non-conference men’s basketball matchup.

-- At 7:30 p.m., Wenatchee visits Pasco in a big CBBN Columbia Division boys basketball game at 7:30 p.m.
