Wa-Hi's Burmood wins district prelim races

ELLENSBURG -- Walla Walla senior Erica Burmood placed first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.31) and 100 butterfly (1:01.61) prelims at the 4A district meet.

Other area top qualifiers were Richland freshman Mackenzie Ruby in the 100 back (1:02.81), Southridge sophomore Megan O'Leary in the 200 free (2:04.24) heat and Kennewick freshman Hailey Murphy in the 500 free (5:24.84).

"Right now we're sitting with 11 kids in the top eight," said Richland coach Kathy Piper, assessing her team's chances to win the district title. "It's a fair amount of points. We're sitting right where we need to be."

The finals are today, with the top three qualifying for state.
