Hanford grad Moore reaches Oregon Am quarterfinals

By the Herald staff

BEND -- Oregon State sophomore Alex Moore, a Hanford graduate, defeated Justin Kadin 3 and 2 to reach the quarterfinals of the 99th Oregon Amateur at Bend Golf & Country Club.

Moore, who shot 8-over in 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying to finish 39th, defeated Corvallis' Sam Ayotte 4 and 2 in his first-round match, then beat No. 7 seed Chris Polski on the 20th hole in the second round.

-- Black Rock Creek head pro Jeff Bender shot an even-par 72 in the first round and is tied for 45th at the 41st PGA Professional National Championship in Greensboro, Ga.

The top 70 and ties make the cut after today's second round.

Bender had two birdies and a double-bogey on the Great Waters course, the more difficult of the two courses being used at the Reynolds Plantation.

Paul Dietsche shot a 6-under 66 on the Reynolds Landing course to lead the field.

Seven of the top nine scores were recorded at Reynolds, which averaged almost a full stroke easier than Great Waters (74.87-75.57).
