So far, the best part of wedding planning is cake tasting...Testing...Whatever, it's delicious.
We're having ours done by Kakes by Kathy. She's been in the cake industry for more than 35 years and was an overall sweet lady. She made us three different types of cake samples to take home to try with different fillings and frostings.
The woman even attempted to make a Mountain Dew flavored cake just for me, which made me ecstatic.
I tried making my own Mountain Dew cake for my boss, King Andy, who has to lay off the Dew for a while. It's pretty simple, but the overall taste is more lemon than Dew. There has to be a way to get concentrated Mt Dew syrup...
In my quest for more Korean pop music, I discovered that Younha, a Korean singer, is responsible for the end-theme to the popular Japanese anime Bleach. I dressed up as Soi Fon from Bleach last year at Seattle's annual Sakura-Con.
Younha was born and raised in Korea, but she learned Japanese and really broke out in the Japanese market. She didn't do so well in Korea, so she focuses on the Japanese music scene. Her story is similar to Korean superstar BoA who was the first to really make it huge in Japan. More power to them.
If I spoke another language, I would soooo milk it for everything. Can't make it as a pop star in America? Psh, just go to Korea! And if you can't make it in Korea, there's always Japan next door.
Speaking of Japan, I can't wait for the real life Akira film to come out. The classic Japanese anime really paved the way for future films and was a big influence on culture. Of course, everyone loved Kaneda's motorcycle that drives backwards. Wonder how it'll look in the live action film. As long as it's not another late-90s Batmobile...
Not so comically, we have a new President today. I must say that I am moved by the nation's choice to really catapult us into a new future. It's truly a new day that will go down in the history books - not just in our own, but in other countries as well.
For me, being a person of color is like wearing a badge on your chest. People see color, no matter what. It's there and there's really nothing you can do about it - except be proud and prove people wrong. Don't fall under the categories and generalizations that they so desperately, perhaps subconsciously, try to put you in. When you prove them wrong and show them that there is more to you than the pigment of your skin, they'll see you for you, which is a beautiful thing.
Like so many people have said before, the world needed a change and it got one today. While Hillary Clinton may have been an excellent President, I can't help but feel that if we had chosen her to be this change that we were looking for, we may have pushed the chance to have a resilient person of color as President back another 40 or so years. In life, sometimes there is a window of opportunity and once a chance has passed, it may be a while before another window presents itself.
We may have seen President Barack Obama's skin color at first, but he has proven himself to be given a chance. And that's what we owe him - the chance to succeed. To prove people wrong. If we don't give him that opportunity, then we'll never know and we'll never move forward.
We are still far from living in a new age, so we shouldn't get off track and assume that the world is just and fair. It's not. By all means, it's really not. But we're getting closer... So instead of dwelling on the negative of how much further we need to go, it's nice to take this day, this very special day, and just take it in. Take it all in. For tomorrow is another new day.
