When I was a kid, we had all these fun games, such as Monopoly, Life, Trouble... Later on, we got some better games, like Connect Four, Apples to Apples and Pictionary.
In college, I learned about all of these awesome games that I had never heard of. I also learned how to pair them perfectly with drinking.
Mr. Bigs' friends braved the pass and came down for the weekend. I spent most of the day making snacks like guacamole, California rolls, Rice Krispie treats and dip. We ordered pizza and they finally got in at 11:30 p.m., bringing with them, Cranium.
Cranium is my new favorite group game. You really find out how much pull your opinion has when on a team. And the more drunkity drunk you get, the more you hazy your judgment becomes (obviously).
Although me and the only other girl didn't drink (our stomachs were strangely unsettled), it was entertaining watching all of his friends compete and ridicule one another... All for the sake of winning a board game.
Back in May, I busted out Apples to Apples, a card game which nobody had played before. It was a big hit, with people acting like lawyers, pointing fingers and making cases as to why their card was the best.
As things winded down, people started falling asleep throughout the house. My big, brown, micro-suede couches were also a hit, with people claiming them when they walked through the front door.
I hit the sack at about 5 a.m., and found out the next morning that Mr. Big and two of his friends had been throwing up outside after taking shots of some homemade moonshine that his father had been fermenting. Stupid boys...
As is tradition, we all stopped by Mr. Big's brother's grave before they headed back west. Two years ago on Jan. 7, his brother fell asleep at the wheel while driving back from his girlfriend's and was thrown from the vehicle. It's taken up until this time for the whole group to really freely joke about him and reminisce. The twinge of pain is still there on their faces... But they are making progress.
It was good for everyone to come down, especially for Mr. Big, as this time of the year is very difficult for him. He's really fortunate to have such caring friends. Speaking of friends, I'd like to give a shout-out to Albert and Amy who gave me Mountain Dew pajama pants and Soju for Christmas!
