First Night Recap

How did you ring in the New Year?

For the 10,000 people who attended First Night in Pasco at Columbia Basin College, they got a smorgasbord of activities, including The Fallout Zone by AtomicTown.

The Zone attracted the likes of all demographics, bringing in stragglers who may have been kicked out of the Vocal Trash concert.

Instead of following through with New Year's resolutions, recap the evening with highlights from our five performers:

First Night: Gabe Knutzen

Gabe Knutzen and his older brother Caleb kicked off the night at 6 p.m. with a little folk-rock. Drawing in people young and old, the Knutzen brothers prove that good acoustic music transcends generations. Afterwards, fans of his music flocked to buy his CD and talk to him about his music.

First Night: Beefy

Transitioning the sound to Nerdcore, Beefy hit the second stage with new tunes from both his solo album and his side project Grammar Club. His bubblyness and charismatic personality intrigued listeners passing by. With his unique style and one-of-a-kind voice, Beefy embodied the fun aspect of our stage.

First Night: Dead Poets

Keeping with the hip-hop theme, Dead Poets gave an intense performance, giving it their all, yet having fun with it, too. Although they were a little worried whether the crowd would take to their music, they found their stride and their performance went without a hitch.

First Night: From the Dust

Back on the main stage, alternative rock group From the Dust was setting up. Lead singer Al Craddock started off their night with an impromptu acoustic set before the rest of the group joined him on stage. Bringing the energy, From the Dust definitely put their heart and soul into their performance. Their fans surrounded the stage and even bravely sat in the front row where their ears were more subjected to internal hemorrhaging.

First Night: Chase Thompson and The Reach

Finishing out the night was Chase Thompson and The Reach. Revealing a few new songs and doing a couple of covers, the group proved that they are a household name by packing the house. With some new members in the group, their set came together nicely.

Overall, a fantastic night for AtomicTown. We would like to give a big special thanks to all five acts for performing at First Night and we'll see you again next year!
