Prosser sweeps Rotary Invite titles

HERALD STAFF

Prosser senior Cade Wandling was named Male Athlete of the Meet at Saturday's Prosser Rotary Invitational, winning the 400 meters and anchoring a pair of winning relays to lead the Mustangs to the team title.

Wandling ran a season-best 48.69 seconds in the 400 to beat teammate Cody Bruns. Wandling's time is No. 3 in Mid-Columbia history, trailing only Pasco's Tim Sullivan (47.66 in 1985) and Nathan Hill (48.5 hand-held in '85). Bruns' 49.14 is No. 11 in area history.

Prosser also won the girls team title, with Ana Zapien improving on her area-best in the discus, throwing 133 feet, 9 inches.

Richland's Shaniae Lakes won the 200 (26.35) and the triple jump (35-10).

Connell Ochoa Invite

Kiona-Benton junior Whitney Leavitt moved into sixth place on the area's all-time list in the girls 100, winning the Ochoa Invite in 12.13 seconds. The meet ended late Friday, and results were not available on deadline.

Leavitt also won the 400 in a season-best 58.75 and anchored the winning 4x200 relay. Othello senior Courtney Kirkwood won the 200, 100 hurdles and javelin.
