2009 hydro tour concludes in Qatar

The American Boat Racing Association (ABRA) announced today that it will stage the final race of the 2009 ABRA unlimited hydroplane season in Doha, Qatar.

Ten of the fastest racing boats in the world will travel in November for the inaugural Oryx Cup event -- the ABRA/UIM World Championship -- as a result of an agreement in principle reached by the ABRA and the Qatar Marine Sports Federation.

The race date is among the items being finalized. It will be held in November (third or fourth weekend) and serve as the last stop on the six-race series, which begins on the Fourth of July weekend in Madison, Ind.

The ABRA tour makes its 2009 stop in the Tri-Cities on July 24-26 for the Water Follies.

The tour also includes a weekend-long exhibition Aug. 8-9 on Okanagan Lake in Kelowna, British Columbia.
