Bernard holds off Bryant for heat 2B win

Jeff Bernard outran Dave Bryant to deliver a much-needed victory in heat 2B of Columbia Cup racing. Bernard started on the inside, and opened up a roostertail lead over Bryant to earn the win in the U-5 Formulaboats.com.

"We needed that for the Formula guys and my crew," Bernard said. "Every time we've ran this year that we haven't crashed or had mechanical problems, we've been doing good. But those 400 points are what we needed to make the final."

Bernard earned a monetary penalty for going outside of the course before the start.

"There's so many buoys out there, I just went for the wrong red buoy," he said. "We've got to make that not happen. That was my last warning. I'll take a fine over a lap penalty any day."

Bryant challenged for the first lap, then settled back in to run second in the U-10 Hoss Mortgage Investors.

"We didn't get a great start," Bryant said. "I could pull on him a little bit, but to be on the inside it was a little tough to keep up."

Ken Muscatel was third in the U-25 Superior Racing, while Brian Perkins finished fourth in the U-21 Meyers Auto Tech.

More racing to follow.
