Formulaboats.com II withdraws, U-3 done also

Gearbox issues have forced the U-1 Formulaboats.com II to withdraw from the remainder of racing, while blown motors have brought the U-3 Hoss Mortgage/Ronald McDonald House's day to an end as well.

"We've used up our allotment of equipment for Tri-Cities," said U-3 owner Ed Cooper, Jr. "This just wasn't our day. We couldn't make it feel right no matter what we did."

Cooper's U-3 lost a motor in testing on Friday, then a propeller in racing on Saturday before blowing another motor in heat 2C.

Both teams expect to be back in action next week at SeaFair.
