U-13 Graham Trucking owner Dave Bartush lent Cal Phipps the cockpit for a few laps Friday afternoon. Phipps ripped off a couple of 151 mph laps, much to the pleasant surprise of everyone on the docks. As he stepped out of the boat, he gave the thumbs-up signal and the team clapped in approval.
"Cal has done everything," Bartush said. "He's driven unlimited lights, G-Boats. He's driven my 5-litre out of Detroit. He and a couple of other guys worked night and day to put our boat back together in time for detroit. This is a kinf od 'Thank you' to him."
Bartush said he's been toying with the idea of getting a second boat on the circuit in the next few years.
"We also have the U-2," he said. "It's always been a tentative backup."
