Pasco boys coach Patsy Northam said that it's "been a tough year" for a Bulldogs team pestered by injuries, but that doesn't mean that there isn't some sunshine coming through the clouds.
Freshman Jose Mendoza stepped up Tuesday to defeat Carson Evans of Kennewick 6-5, 6-4 in No. 4 singles competition.
Senior Kyle Robinson provided the other Pasco boys singles victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win, but it was in doubles competition that the Bulldogs stood out as Pasco swept Kennewick led by the No. 1 partnership of Blake Cornell and Nate Swearingen.
-- In Richland, coach Michelle Martin couldn't be more pleased with how the season is shaping up for the girls team.
"We're plugging along and the girls are surprising workhorses," Martin said. "They're working so hard with getting these wins off of teams that we would be pulling teeth to get wins from."
The Bombers' sweep of Southridge on Tuesday was a prime example of how that work ethic is paying off big, as No. 1 singles player Janell Talbot fought the Suns' Stephanie Hamilton for a 7-6 (3), 6-1 victory, and the No. 3 doubles team of Chelsea Hutchinson and Mikayla Kusuda routed Megan Yount and Kelly McLeod 6-0, 6-0.
