Talk about stepping up: Kamiakin freshman Brittney Reed defeated defending state champion Alexis Filliol of West Valley (Yakima) 6-2, 6-0 in a No. 1 singles home match Saturday.
"I felt comfortable out there," said Reed, a Liberty Christian student who plays for Kamiakin because LC does not offer tennis and she lives in the Kamiakin boundaries.
"I was mentally prepared. Alexis is a good player and I knew it was going to be a tough match, but I really wanted to get that point for my team."
