KENNEWICK — Ali Welch and Demie Warner evened out the checks and balances of their season Saturday, winning a pair of matches en route to capturing their second straight state doubles tennis title.

EAST WENATCHEE -- Troy Zuroske dropped just two games in a straight-set victory over Eastmont's Braden Wielik as Richland ripped Eastmont 5-2.

SPOKANE -- Richland's Troy Zuroske defeated Ethan Vaughn of Mead 6-4, 6-2 to win the No. 1 boys singles title at the Inland Empire tournament in Spokane.

SPOKANE -- Richland had all four of its entrants in the boys portion of the Inland Empire tournament in Spokane reach the semifinals, including Tri-City Invite No. 1 singles champion Troy Zuroske.

If area tennis fans had traded in their sunglasses for opera glasses this season, it would have been an understandable gesture as the Hanford boys sported the friendly intramural rivalry of Jake Knox and Curtis Lan, and the Kamiakin girls were led through a record-breaking season by freshman Brittney Reed ... of Liberty Christian.

Kamiakin High School opened its doors in the fall of 1970, and since that time, no girls singles player or doubles team had won a state tennis title.
