Roundup: Wa-Hi rolls to 4A district softball title

By the Herald staff

RICHLAND -- Alexis Bobadilla allowed only three hits and Tarynn Fortune hit a grand slam to lead Walla Walla to its first district softball title since 1999, routing Kennewick 12-0 in the CBBN 4A championship game Saturday at Columbia Playfield.

Eryn Nelson hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to give Kennewick an 8-7 win over Richland in the semifinals.

"It was a see-saw battle," Kennewick coach Dave Giancola said of his team's win over Richland. "Richland got ahead, we battled ahead and they battled back. It wasn't over until the final swing ... the right hitter, the right pitch and the right results -- that's what put us into the winner's championship round."

Kamiakin eliminated CBBN Columbia top seed Southridge 2-0 in the first game of the day and eventually finished as the No. 6 regional seed, losing to Richland 4-1 in the seeding game.

The top six teams advanced to the 4A Eastern Regonals next weekend in Yakima.
